Seventeen pieces, all hand pieced. I made the center section first–the red middle with the four melon shapes. Then I pieced together the remaining sections and stitched them to the center (in three parts). Clipped insice curves, one pin in the middle of my curved seam segments, and making one stitch at a time helped keep things tidy. All in all, a fun block that is quite lovely, but not one that I can imagine making a bunch of at once.
When I look more at the block diagram, I think it might have been fun to reverse applique one big muslin piece, followed by an red applique center.
