K-2 Grandpa’s Chickens

Machine pieced.  Forty pieces.  Yes, machine.  I said when I started this project that I might want to make some of the quilt by machine, I just did not know when.  With the start of the new year, I thought that it would be fun to try to keep up with the Block of the Week challenges at dearjane.com.  The deadline is tonight, my older daughter is having a sleepover with the grandparents, and this block whispered to me, “C’mon, machine piece me.  You know you want to.”

So I did.  Usually, hand piecing is faster because sewing is an all or nothing proposition.  Either I do it all by hand while taking care of the kids, or I do nothing by sewing machine.  Therefore, “faster” is all relative.  But I can say with certainty that for this particular block, I was able to put it together quickly and accurately by machine, toss it onto my pile of completed blocks, and get ready to sew the next one.

The next one, of course is Fan Dance, the second BOM for January in the Flickr group.

Beautifully precise–it probably would have taken me three times as long by machine, what with the ripping out and all. :) Awesome fabric, as always!
