When I decided to pick this block for February Block of the Month, I first looked at Brenda’s pattern (first one on the left, above). Yes, there are hearts, and yes, it is cute, but it did not look at all like the block in Jane Stickle’s quilt. Normally, I am not a stickler for something being just like Jane’s. But it is obvious in the original that the pieces are not floating separately from one another, nor are they pieced as four hearts. Variation 1 and Variation 2 (shown to the right of Brenda’s pattern, above), are much closer to the original. I can see in an up-close picture of the block that Jane pieced hers with eight teardrop shapes, definitely touching right up next to each other, sort-of looking like hearts, but sort-of not. It is cute no matter how you make it, whether with Brenda’s pattern, or variation one or variation two.
This would be a nice block to enlarge into something like a pillow cover, too, don’t you think?
I went with Variation one on the Dear Jane CD. To be continued…

I do like the teardrop shape because of the flower shape formed in the middle and look forward to seeing how you work the variation.

Interesting. I dont have the Dear Jane CD. Does it help with the triangles at all, that is where I am stuck.
