Machine pieced. Twenty-eight pieces. I wanted to like this block, I really did. But I let the image sit on the Dear Jane worktable on the CD, and sit and sit some more. I thought about hand piecing it, but decided to sew it by machine. Honestly, those bias edges on the triangle pieces scared me.
I followed the instructions on the Block Tips page. The strip length gave me plenty of extra in case I needed to recut. Word to the wise: remember to flip the template after one set of triangles is cut. It worked like a charm, and I admit that I like Fan Dance a lot more now. Probably because it is finished.
Here is an in-progress shot to show my sewn strips, and the triangles that resulted. Lining up the seams by machine was a breeze, as all seams were first pressed towards the print fabric when I made my strips. This meant the I did not have to think at all when I put the triangles together–the seams butted up beautifully.

My memory is shot these days, but I think I tried the same approach when I did this block. I’m seeing so much DJ as I return to blogging, maybe it will motivate me to finally finish my triangles in 2007. I’ve probably been working on this in fits and starts for at least 7 years at this point!

Hmmm, if only I knew what all those names meant on that hint page!
I recently pieced together my first real “pieced together trying to follow a pattern” doll quilt. Clearly I need some kind of hints or something, because no matter what I tried, I could not make them line up properly when I sewed the squares into strips. (You can see a photo on my blog currently if that makes no sense.)
