A few weeks ago, I started this list of Japanese sewing terms. It is still a work in progress, but it covers some of the basics. Sure enough, I did not have to look far for something far better than what I am doing. I am a big fan of the Japan Couture blog, which always has so many fresh photos of completed sewing projects from some of my favorite books. In the right sidebar, under “AIDE TECHNIQUE”, there is a link to a 6-page .pdf document with extensive diagrams, translations, and assistance with reading Japanese patterns, from Japanese to English. I was so impressed by this–I think you will be, too! Thank you to the women who put so much effort into that blog.
(The photo is a diagram of a favorite granny bag pattern. The book was from the library, and I don’t remember the title anymore!)
