My second child only occasionally owned new clothes of her own. But last year (she is now 8) she got a new bike, for the first time ever, and as she is tall, it was bigger than first daughter's bike - you wouldn't believe the strop from DD1 about that! Third child, luckily for him, is a boy, so a) doesn't really care about clothes anyway and b) had mostly new stuff because dresses didn't really suit... I know just what you mean.
