Easter egg skirt

This is an encore of the tiered skirt I made last year. Same Chocolate Lollipop fat quarter bundle, different colors. Last year’s skirt fits the little kid this year, and this skirt fits the big kid (sizes 3 and 4 respectively). Thank you, Simplicity 4206. I cannot recommend this pattern highly enough for someone who is beginning to sew. Elastic waist skirts like this, with plenty of gathers, are practically foolproof. The gathers (and plenty of busy prints!) hide mistakes quite well, the pattern pieces are three simple rectangles, and the tiered style is completely twirl-inducing. Make this skirt (then make it again…) and be prepared for plenty of conversations that start with “Where did you buy that?”

I am not the only one who loves this pattern: Petunia, Hannah and Amy have made cute versions of the pants, top and skirt.  (I have not made the top, but everyone says it should be lengthened at least a couple of inches).

And if you want instant gratification, a photo instructions, and options for any size, check out this fun tutorial. If you are making skirts for girls, tiered or otherwise, leave a link to a photo in the comments–I would love to see it.
