About this time of year, I start to think about fall clothes. What to buy, what to pull out from last year and what I might like to try to sew. Enter haco, a thick and lovely mail-order catalog, for the impulse-purchase bookstore price of 300 yen. (And of course that 300 yen is refunded with an order…) I am not the only one with a thing for this kind of catalog. Well, it is hard to resist, given hundreds of pages of photographs and inspiration like these:
“possibly cuter than at other shop…” (Is the duck subliminal advertising?)
If only I had time to to hang with friends in a room with a turntable, eating scones and layering my clothing so effortlessly and effectively!
A feature in many mail-order catalogs is the monthly club, where you get an item every month, sometimes with helpful wardrobe hints!
There is even a granny-square club! Oh, the possibilities.
A corduroy flat club.
I love the denim dress.
I think this one has wide, kimono-style sleeves. To the buttons down the back: you’re killing me.
Can’t go wrong with a scarf club like this (actually, a polka-dot stole club).
The “tunic one-piece” strikes again! Which color would you choose?
My first thought? That scarf looks heavy. Second thought? She looks just like ellybeth!
It is a denim jacket. That deep indigo is all moody and chic. Not sure what the tights are saying. Maybe “I’m twenty-one, and you’re not”.

I just wanted to say I so enjoy reading your blog. From Northern California, hearing about your life in Japan is so interesting. And I can definitely relate to sewing for two daughters. Thanks.

Well, crud, just when I was trying to wean myself off of felissimo stuff, you bring up haco! I haven’t ordered anything from haco … yet. I think I might have to investigate this a bit further. Thanks, enabler!

Oh, Japanese style! I too am so envious of the effortless layering ability. How I wish I could pull that off – that and the general cuteness factor! Great stuff – thanks for the peek at this catalog!

Definitely. That’s what the tights are saying… too bad. So we must look for something else, more appropriate…
I love those mail order catalogues, too. Pure inspiration.
Our turntable lives an unhappy, unpacked life… oh, and those happy gatherings… well, at least I am getting better with layering my clothes. They have really nice, thin woolen scarves at MUJI right now, by the way.

I just discovered your blog a little while ago, and been coming back enjoying your posts since !
I have seen this magazine in book stores a few times and never really took the time to go through it, but the pages you’re showing us are really mouthwatering ! Thank you for sharing, next time I’m at the book store, I’ll be sure to check !
(I love the page with the scarf in different colorway !)

Hello! Your blog and girly creations are gorgeous. I miss all the beautiful Japanese mags. I’ve saved that last picture of the girl in the indigo trench for my hairdresser. Super ‘do!

I absolutely adore Haco and other stuff from Felissimo (stumbled upon them through Polyvore). The collections are basic but with some nice addition to it. Such as little frills and buttons down the back :D
so what did you get from the catalog? ;)
